Broadcom NetExtreme II NIC

Dealing with Broadcom's NetExtreme II Nics can be a challenge.

(Alias HP NC373i or NC37xi)

Under V6 OSD there are two challenges you need to solve

1. PE 2.0 Drivers

You need to find the proper driver to support PE.

The W2K3 (b06nd50x.sys) Driver does not do it and neither does the W2K driver (b06nd52x.sys)

The only driver that works for PE is the b06nd51x.sys which can be found on IBMs webpage as RIS Driver or on the HP Smartstart CD (after extracting the folder with the deployment tools)

This is a Monolitic Driver so the "Virtual System Device" Driver is actually not required for it to work under PE. Better said, that also injecting the Virtual System Device Driver into PE will make it NOT work any longer.

2. Windows Drivers

To make the NIC Driver work under W2k3 or W2K you need this "Virtual System Device Driver" which can be found on HPs or IBMs Webpage.

The NIC driver won't load until this driver is installed.

Therfore it is required to create a single Driver package that contains both device drivers. The easiest way to get this done is to log on to a server that is running W2k3 and import the driver "PNP Style". Select both devices and create a singel driver package. Do not go overboard and include all kind of other drivers (grafic, MSC ...), otherwise your driver package gets very big for proloading it during the setup process and MSC are handled differently anyway.

Hope this helps, If you have any other questions about V6 OSd, please feel free to contact us.
